My second dose of “augmented reality” – in the Michael Jackson Opus
Today I finally got to view Michael Jackson’s This Is It before it leaves theaters. It just made me admire his creative talent even more and of course saddened me again that he was lost to his fans too soon. When I got home, I decided to read more about the latest and found this neat tidbit of technology that will be included in The Official Michael Jackson Opus, a comprehensive book about his life.
In the book, they have incorporated an AUGMENTED REALITY piece that allows you to virtually interact with your computer by holding up a seemingly plain photo card up to your webcam and triggers a video to play, right in your hand on-screen. The publisher of the book demonstrated this on the Today Show in case you missed it. You’ll have to watch through till the end of the video to see the segment, but it’s worth seeing.

The first time I had seen this kind of technology was at Adobe Max back in October for the new John Mayer album:
So there’s your bit of pop culture, design, and technology for the week!
